The girl and the boat

The boat is gently rocking in the water.
She asked, ”Aren’t you afraid?”
”Me? For what?,” he smiled.
He waved back at the children on the shore. Aunts are taking out the lunch.
”Well, I am scared,” she said.
He turned to look at her. Her hair was all over the place. She appeared so fragile. It is like that, he thought. Unruly hair makes one look so vulnerable.

”Why?,” he asked.
She smiled. A tinge of sheepishness.<
”I don’t know.”
”Are you scared of me?”
”Come on… It’s just that… it’s a big decision.”
”Don’t think too much about it.”

She gazed at him. As if trying to read his soul.
I know, I know, he thought. Its easier said that done. How can one not think of marriage?

”So will it be like this for the rest of our lives?”
”Like what?”
”Will I have to worry for you also?,” she smiled with mischief.
You are killing me, he thought.
”No, you can stop worrying for yourself too.”
”It would be great.”

A kingfisher flew around. Finally it perched on the rails. What the hell is going on here?

She stood there gazing at him, with folded hands, a smile entangled in her lips. He put on the glasses.

He said to the kingfisher,” Don’t you see? she is already reading too much of me.”
